Tasmania Roadtrip - Week 3 - Wilderness Railway

An enlarged model of the Abt rack and pinion system was at our final station which is the highest point of today's tour. You can see the actual rack in the bottom photo. The Abt Locomotives have 2 steam cylinders - one for the normal engine operation and one for the central rack rail which engages when pulling up the steep sections.
